Exterior Mold and Mildew Removal

Mold and mildew is a natural contaminant that will grow on your siding, masonry, roof, driveways or any other area on the exterior of your home. I am sure you have found this to be obvious, especially on the north side of your home where there is more shade and moisture to make for ideal conditions for the growth of mold and mildew. What is mildew and where does it come from? It is the visible part of very tiny plant life called fungi. Paint contains organic materials that nourish the plant life by providing perfect conditions for mildew to grow.
You should annually pressure wash all areas where mold and mildew is growing with proper cleaners in order to kill the growth as you clean. Merely washing the surface without killing the mold and mildew is a futile attempt to solve this problem and in several months you will have this task to do once again. Regular and proper maintenance and removal of mold and mildew will ensure beauty and longevity, as well as protecting the value of your largest investment.
When I refer to proper cleaners, not only am I referring to those that remove and kill the mold and mildew, but I’m also referring to protecting our environment by being “GREEN”. Therefore you will want to use safe, biodegradable, non-corrosive products.
To find these products you can go to your local hardware store or go online and locate some excellent mold and mildew cleaners. One product, “Spray & Forget” and another “JOMAX® Cleaners” both offer homeowners easy solutions to remove mold and mildew from exterior and interior surfaces around the home. These are only two brands however, after a little research you’ll find many more products that will accomplish this task to your satisfaction. Again, be sure to use products that are environmentally friendly; and not only will you be a responsible person, but safe, biodegradable, non-corrosive products will protect your plants, screens, and metal products such as doors, gutters etc.
If you are considering repainting your home you’ll want to be sure and use a paint that has a mold and mildew inhibitor additive.
If you neglect to properly clean and kill mold and mildew, this natural contaminant will grow very deeply into your paint and siding resulting in an expensive prep and repainting that will be your only solution. On the other hand, if you maintain your house regularly, after years your home will continue to appear to have been recently painted. This task is well worth your time.
