If you have a lawn, maintaining it can either be a chore or an escape from all the pressures at the office. Buying  the right lawn mower can help make this task much more pleasurable.

The size of your lawn should determine the size and type of lawn mower you buy. If your lawn is the typical suburban lawn of approximately 1,000 square feet, you might choose a manual reel. However, if your lawn is large, you will want the comfort of a riding mower.

Leaf baggers

If you want to catch the clippings of your lawn choose one with a leaf bagger, but if  you don’t want to catch the clippings,  a thatcher blade will cut the grass into small pieces and then blow it down into the lawn for a fertile covering.

You will also want to buy a mower with low maintenance requirements; here are some options for you to consider before you purchase your lawn mower.

Lawn mowers with rotary blades are easy to operate and sharpen. They also tend to be inexpensive. The self-propelled mowers  have a motor which turns the wheels. These are good for slopes and are easy to operate.

Riding mowers

If you have an acre or more of lawn, there is no question that a riding lawn mower is what you need. With this much lawn to maintain, you want at least a 48” cutting swath and please avoid buying the economy model. You can buy models for about $2,000.00, but after about a year or so you will be working more on the lawn mower than mowing your yard. If you pay from $5,000.00 and up, not only will it hold up to this amount of mowing, it will be like driving a Mercedes rather than driving an economy car. After 10 to 15 years and perhaps even longer, you’ll appreciate the wise investment you made.
